Step Up in San Bernardino

The conversion of the former All Star Lodge in San Bernardino creates permanent supportive housing for those hardest to house and most in need of wrap-around services. The hotel was purchased with financing from Shangri-La Industries and was made possible in part with a grant from the state's Project Homekey program. It is in the top 10% of most cost-effective Homekey projects throughout California and the City of San Bernardino was not required to provide any capital for closing. The development includes 75, 250-square-foot efficiency-style units and one manager unit. Eight of the units are for mobility-impaired tenants, and three are for aural or visually impaired occupants. One manager unit is on-site. All units are dedicated to individuals earning 30% or less of the average median income. The development includes structural upgrades, ADA compliance, fire/life/safety upgrades, removal of the pool, sitework, securing the site, paint, and improvements to the units including new kitchenettes and flooring. The development will complete in less than 12 months from the initial acquisition using local hire labor.
