Step Up in Salinas

The conversion of the former Good Nite Inn Hotel in Salinas creates permanent supportive housing for those hardest to house and most in need of wrap-around services. The hotel was purchased with financing from Shangri-La Industries and was made possible in part with a grant from the state's Project Homekey program. It is in the top 10% of most cost-effective Homekey projects throughout California and the City of Salinas and Monterey County were not required to provide any capital for closing. The development includes 101, 250-square-foot efficiency-style units, including 11 ADA units on the first floor - all dedicated to individuals earning 30% or less of average median income. It includes two manager units. The 111-stall parking area has five ADA stalls, 90 standard stalls, and 16 truck stalls. The coversion includes structural upgrades, ADA compliance, fire/life/safety upgrades, removal of the pool, sitework, securing the site, paint, and improvements to the units, including new kitchenettes and flooring. The development will complete in less than 12 months from the initial acquisition using local hire labor.
