James McFarlane serves as the Vice President, Special Projects Group for Shangri-La Construction (SLC). In this role James oversees the Special Projects Group (SPG), a division of SLC that supports all tenant improvements as well as specialty projects that have shorter schedules, reduced scopes and scale, unique requirements, impacts to building occupants and systems and demand a high-level of finish quality and client service. James tailors, implements, and continuously improves upon the SPG’s processes, procedures, systems and standards.
James joined SLC in 2010 in the role of Senior Project Manager. In 2013 he was promoted in to the role of Vice President, Business Development where his primary role was identifying new business opportunities and cultivating relationships with existing clients – a skill and function of his current position.
James has over 30 years of experience in the construction industry. Prior to joining SLC, James was Vice President and Partner at Stanhope Company where he also served as Senior Project Manager and Account Executive. Throughout his career he has successfully developed, managed and completed over 10 million square feet of special projects for both public and private clients over a wide range of market sectors.
James is a graduate of Cal State University, Long Beach (CSULB) with a Bachelor of Arts degree. James also has certifications in the following related fields of Construction study: LEED / CMAA / OSHA / WELLNESS.
